Dental Crown Q&A

What are dental crowns made out of?

Dental crowns are made of porcelain dental ceramic. This material blends in with natural teeth and is color-matched to the rest of your smile.

What is the dental crown treatment like?

Dr. Sinclair will conduct a full examination of your teeth before treatment to make sure that a dental crown fits your needs.

If you require root canal treatment prior to receiving a dental crown, Dr. Sinclair will clean out infected nerves from your tooth and then shape the tooth to prepare it for a crown. A small amount of material has to be removed from the outside of the tooth, even if you do not require a root canal so that there is ample room for the crown. Dental impressions are taken of teeth so that the crown fits with the rest of your smile. Dr. Sinclair uses porcelain ceramic dental crowns because they blend in well with natural teeth. Dr. Sinclair will fit you with a temporary crown while your final restoration is made in a dental lab.

How do I take care of my dental crowns?

If you take care of dental crowns, they can last you for over 30 years. You have to brush and floss regularly and be sure to make routine visits to Dr. Sinclair’s office.
